A pelmet is a framework placed above a window to conceal curtain fixtures and can be covered with fabric or be painted plywood or plastic. A valance has a similar function but is always made of fabric.
Swags and tails are pieces of curtain or fabric which hang in a drooping curve over the main curtain.
Curtains and blinds can be enhanced by the addition of the traditional valances, swags and tails, or by padded pelmets. Pelmets can be straight or shaped as required.
