You may be aware that this year celebrates the centenary of the Bauhaus movement.

Bauhaus was a German art school which operated between 1919 and 1933, combining fine arts and crafts. It had a profound influence on many developments in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design and even typography.

It fostered the belief that a student who had mastered the basic principles and techniques of design could then design anything from a dress to a kitchen stove.

The influence of Bauhaus is still with us today. Prestigious Textiles, for instance, have recently been celebrating the 100 year anniversary by emphasising how the graphic designs, geometric patterns and primary colours so typical of the Bauhaus style are still being incorporated in modern design.

They point out that their Mambo collection offers Bauhaus’s recognisable geometrics in its Hip Hop and Swing designs.
